Maggie teaches these workshops in the heart of downtown Owen Sound at The Georgian Bay School of the Arts.

GET TO KNOW YOUR SEWING MACHINE

In this class, you will learn how to thread and operate your own sewing machine. Basic operations will be taught as you make a simple tea towel to take home. Common problems such as jammed needles and broken threads will be covered. Understanding your sewing machine will give you the confidence to pursue projects at home or at GB Arts!

You may bring your own sewing machine, or borrow one from GB Arts.

CROSS BODY LEATHER BAG

Make you own brown leather cross body bag using an everyday sewing machine. The bag will have an inside or outside pocket, magnetic closure and adjustable strap.  Decorative and functional rivets accent the bag.  Machine sewing skills essential. All materials provided.

CASUAL LOOSE TROUSERS

DESCRIPTION

Make yourself summer trousers in one day and improve your sewing skills. This pattern is designed to be ideal for the sewer who has taken the Get to Know Your Sewing Machine and Shift Dress classes or has some sewing experience. Take the next step into a pair of trousers. 

These trousers are lightly fitted in the front and shaped at the knee. Top stitching adds interest to the overall look. This class will teach basic skills: checking pattern size, pinning, cutting, and sewing, and will include some intermediate skills: darts.

Learn to Needle Felt in a cozy, three hour workshop. This technique produces attractive items in a very short time. You will create at least one piece and will leave with enough wool to continue your journey in felting. Perfect even for those who do not think they are creative.

Is it an apron? Is it a top? It’s a smock, and it is reversible. Make a charming cover-up in one day with two cotton fabrics of your choice. This is a great opportunity to learn and practice sewing skills on your own sewing machine or one borrowed from GB Arts.

Beginner sewing skills required.
